One of the difficulties of keeping a blog like this is that I can’t show off my paying work until it’s in print.  So I can’t show off what I’m working on right now. But at least I manage to draw other things from time to time…

These are just idle “see what comes out of the pen” drawings with very little thought put into them.  None are meant to be any one or anything specific. Well, other than Donald Duck, he’s rather specfic. A couple years back I almost had the chance to draw the Disney ducks for kaBoom! comics. KaBoom!’s deal with Disney fell apart before I had my chance. But I still find myself  scribbling out old Donald from time to time, just to stay in practice. Someday I’ll get my chance…

The Submarine

One of my goals for the New Year is to produce more un-commissioned artwork. To stretch myself some and draw the sorts of things that are different from the stuff I’m paid to illustrate. And so, today I drew this highly impractical submarine. Like last weeks Guardian, this was drawn in pen and ink with no real planning beforehand.

The Guardian

Happy New Year, everyone! I’m striving to make this the best year ever, and part of doing that will be in reviving this ol’ blog and updating regularly.

So for my first post of the New Year, may I present “the Guardian of the Fire Bridge.” I’ve been drawing a lot of cute stuff lately, so this morning I felt the need to do something different as a warm up before I began the day’s work. And this guy came out of the pen with no planning. What do you think?

Ducktales

A few months back, one of the editors at Kaboom! comics approached me with the possibility of doing some art for the upcoming Ducktales comic. The deadline was apparently very tight and I had only a couple of days to do some sample sketches of the characters for Disney’s approval. Considering the fact that I hadn’t drawn these characters before, I think I did OK, but I wish I had done a little less hatching lines. 

I didn’t get the job. But here are a few of my samples for the job that might have been.
