I love all of your work. But I just wanted to comment on your colors. They are so rich and wonderful and they add so much to your fantastic line work. If you don’t mind sharing, could you tell me what is your preferred technique for coloring something like this?

Thank you for the kind words about my colors. My coloring process is complicated. One of these days I need to put up a detailed post explaining how I work. To put it simply, I begin coloring by hand the old fashioned way (for the Barn Owl I used Prismacolor markers and colored pencils, but I occasionally use paint as well). At this stage I focus primarily on light, shadow, and texture. Then I scan the artwork into the computer and do additional work with Photoshop. The result is something no quite digital but not completely hand-colored either.
